DEAD CHIC Release New Single ‘Pain Love Joy’
Pain, Love, Joy: three words like a mantra, a demand from the altar. It is the requirement of a life well filled, woven by ups and downs, missteps, injuries and enjoyment. The new track from Dead Chic clearly sounds like a release and that’s indeed the effect these few intense minutes have upon us, where garage influences are clearly felt. Listening to it, we feel an irresistible urge to accompany the band on the refrain- “GIVE ME PLEASURE, GIVE ME PAIN!”. These few words could well sum up the backbone of their music: expressing with intensity and sincerity what animates our mortality, through all extremes, from pain to joy and all in-between.
Andy Balcon met his Dead Chic co-conspirator Damien Félix a few years ago while touring with their respective bands (Heymooshaker and Catfish), frequently crossing paths on the road and catching up backstage to discuss music, idols, and the possibility of collaborating. After a few years without crossing paths, they reconnected in the fall of 2020. Before discussing musical influences, Andy and Damien shared visual references, illustrations, and landscapes that would form the foundation and direction of their work. The idea of working together then took a serious turn, and after some exchanges, “Too Far Gone,” their first track, was released in 2022.
They were then joined by Rémi Ferbus on drums (known for his work with Kimberose, Mélissa Laveaux, among others), who had previously collaborated with Andy; and Mathis Akenginon keyboards, a long-time collaborator of Damien in Catfish. Over the years, through tours and travels, the musicians have honed their skills, enriched their cultural knowledge, and defined their individual styles. The combination of the four immediately sparked.
‘Pain Love Joy’ follows the release of the band’s incredible debut album ‘Serenades And Damnation’ which has gained airplay from Radio X’s John Kennedy and high praise from Rolling Stone Magazine. Under The Radar, Earmilk, Louder Than War and many more.
