Danny Towers & DJ Scheme Share “Paranoid”
Tearing up the scene with their no-nonsense trap tracks, Danny Towers and DJ Scheme are Florida to the bone. Connecting for their first-ever joint album, the two close collaborators announce Safe House. The 14-track project expands upon the underground sound that Scheme and Towers helped foster, combining Towers’ gritty raps with a diverse complement of instrumentals. Welcoming guest spots from Babyface Ray (on single “Trap Baby“), and Florida rap heavy-hitters like Denzel Curry, Robb Bank$, Trapland Pat, and Loe Shimmy, Safe House arrives on June 23rd via TC Music / EMPIRE.
The upcoming tape is home to the viral single “Florida Water” ft. Luh Tyler & Ski Mask The Slump God, which earned praise from XXL, Stereogum, HotNewHipHop, and more. “Florida Water” inspired a photo dump trend on TikTok, where creators drop the hottest selfies in their Photos app as the beat drops and Danny’s infectious hook, “Threw him in that water, I’m from Florida, but my wrist Cuban,” gives way to Luh Tyler’s croaking verse. Peaking at #1 on TikTok’s trending charts, the song generated over 200k video creations on TikTok, over 14 million streams on Spotify, and reached the top spot on SoundCloud’s daily chart.
Along with the announcement of the tape, Towers & Scheme share “Paranoid,” a new single. Produced by South Florida sound architect Ronny J, the song rides a stuttering synth pattern, incorporating boss battle synth strings and haunting vocal samples to back up Towers’ trash talk. Powering through the beat with blunt force, Towers balances his ferocious flexes with a peek inside his paranoid mindset: “Had a n**** too paranoid, can’t sleep, got me laying with a stick under the covers/I’m in that water, I’m way too deep, but I promise I’ll die for my brothers.”
Rising in the Florida rap scene that helped birth the SoundCloud underground, the creative relationship Danny Towers and DJ Scheme reaches back over half a decade. Born and raised in Orlando, Towers has been a member of the Members Only and Very Rare collectives since 2015, regularly collaborating with the likes of Ski Mask The Slump God, XXXTentacion, and more. Palm Beach native DJ Scheme worked his way into the scene as a DJ and producer, starting his career as a tour DJ for wifisfuneral before linking up with the Members Only crew shortly afterward.
The duo first officially connected on Scheme’s debut EP PRESEASON, serving up the upbeat “RVD” and the massive underground hit “How You Feel? (Freestyle),“ featuring Ski Mask The Slump God and Lil Yachty, which generated over 100 million on-demand streams en route to GOLD certification by the RIAA. Towers appeared on multiple highlights from Scheme’s FAMILY album, including “E-ER” which reunited the four artists behind “How You Feel?” and once again went GOLD. Both Towers and Scheme are fixtures at Rolling Loud Festival, performing at nearly every event since its founding in 2015.
