Chicago Artist Luke Titus Announces New Album
Luke Titus, the Chicago-born drummer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, has announced a new album, From What Was Will Grow A Flower, out April 25th via Chicago’s Sooper Records. Today, you can hear “Sideline,” the final single from the album. The track is a shape-shifting blend of jazz and experimental pop, fusing intricate drumwork with airy, genre-fluid production and is accompanied by a gorgeous video by NYC filmmaker Patrick Linehan full of stunning cinematography.
Follow the thread of Luke Titus’ many contributions to jazz, alternative, and hip-hop scenes across America, and what emerges is a singular weave between his roots in Chicago, L.A., and New York communities. These influences are expressed most forcefully and intentionally on the second LP from the prolific young songwriter and producer. From What Was Will Grow A Flower codifies those contributions into an emergent, nearly clairvoyant statement of musical intent—blooming, innovative songwriting interspersed with virtuosic instrumental passages, underwritten by meticulously studied production techniques. A drummer by trade—cutting his teeth in Chicago’s jazz and DIY scenes—Titus’ solo work leans into a kaleidoscopic sound, pulling from the rhythmic complexity of J Dilla, the textural warmth of Toro y Moi, and the left-field instincts of a producer like Floating Points.
Of the album, Titus says:
“This album is about spirituality and connectivity, both with the universe and the self, as told through my personal journey. It questions reality as a way to deepen one’s connection to it. I dedicate this album not only to anyone who has been through hard times, but to anyone who relates to the cyclical nature of the human experience. And more than that, I dedicate this album to my mom.”
