CHARLS Says “Heartbreak Looks Good On Me”

London-based singer-songwriter CHARLS, has released her seminal anthemic debut album, Heartbreak Looks Good On Me, alongside her new single, the album’s title track via The Orchard. CHARLS’ debut marks a huge milestone in her career and journey as an artist.

Ending 2025 with vulnerable, soulful track “Heads Up” and kicking off 2026 with single, “Trust My Gut,” an ambitiously intimate release, a string of powerful songs have followed throughout the year including the anthemic “Begging On My Birthday“ and the heartfelt “Out In The Open.” Traversing the stages of a tender heart and the reclamation of self-love, the music echoes her artistic growth by exploring the frustration of feeling overlooked alongside an anthemic sense of personal empowerment and as Revamp Magazine noted, “this is an artist fully stepping into their own.”

Heartbreak Looks Good On Me is produced by Phil Simmonds (Rizzle Kicks, Zara Larsson, BonIver) and features some of CHARLS’ strongest work to date. In the wake of a breakup, she booked a studio session with producer Cam Blackwood (George Ezra, Jack Savoretti, Florence & The Machine) and songwriter Nick Hahn (ZAYN, Sigrid). This marked her very first session after the split as she eased back into writing. During the session, CHARLS received the photos back from a recent post breakup shoot. Seeing herself looking confident and radiant instantly sparked the concept for the song, setting off a prolific creative wave that birthed the majority of the tracks for her upcoming debut album.
Today’s album announcement arrives alongside another single following this trajectory. “Paranoid Heart” was written by CHARLS alongside singer-songwriter Sarah Close as they both bonded on the same shared experience of betrayal in love and the need to express their bottled rage. The result is an anthemic call to arms, CHARLS’ beautiful voice sounding powerful in its new found strength and resilience. Listen to “Paranoid Heart” here. ‘
“That day I wrote the album’s title track, ‘Heartbreak Looks Good On Me,’ she shares. “That song has been the silver lining throughout what has been an extremely turbulent chapter of my life,” says CHARLS. “It’s repeatedly picked me up off the floor. It was written in realtime as I healed from heartbreak. The music was the friend I needed to help me piece myself back together again and I really hope it can be that for other people too. My favorite thing about it all is that I made it with my best mate, in the basement of a carpet shop in North London. I couldn’t ever have hoped for or predicted the circumstances that inspired it… but it’s the album I’ve always dreamt of making. Raw, honest, real. I’m so excited to share it. Here’s to not giving up on your dreams and to leaving behind people who don’t treat you right.”
Initially discovered by GRAMMY Award-nominated producer Toby Gad (Beyoncé, Fergie, Jessie J,John Legend), CHARLS now embraces full creative independence with a renewed sense of authenticity. Her forthcoming debut album tells a step-by-step, real-time story of love lost and self reclaimed, a project that captures empowerment through vulnerability. With previous support from Billboard, CLASH, Wonderland, Line of Best Fit, and more, CHARLS has earned critical praise for her soulful vocals and introspective songwriting. She’s opened for the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Tom Odell, Jess Glynne, and Bastille, and performed at major festivals including Reading & Leeds, Lollapalooza Berlin, and Isle of Wight.
As she reintroduces herself to the world, CHARLS is ready to reclaim her narrative, this time on herown terms.
