Ashley Kutcher recently released her new EP Survive My Own Mind. Throughout the entirety of the EP Kutcher shares her vulnerability regardless of how hard it may be to do so. As Kutcher sings about the struggle of surviving your own thoughts, she raises awareness for those with mental health struggles. The songwriting and storytelling that takes place in Survive My Own Mind are both emotional and meaningful. This new EP will take you on a journey through experiences with not only anxiety but love and heartbreak as well.

Track 1: “Survive My Own Mind”

The first track titled after the EP itself, is about the struggles one faces with anxiety as well as depression. Kutcher says, “Some days you feel like you just have to survive your own thoughts. The hardest part sometimes is not knowing why your body is acting the way it is.” In the chorus of this song Kutcher sings,

“I think I’m just doing my best to get by/Something feels off yeah it doesn’t feel right/I feel like I am just trying to survive/Survive my own mind”

Track 2: “Love You More”

The second track “Love You More” is a song about the feeling of being stuck in the past. “Love You More” makes us ask ourselves if we can ever love as hard as our first despite everything. When describing the song Ashley Kutcher says, “This song is about feeling as if you’ll never love as innocently as you did when you were young.” In the chorus, she sings,

"If I’m being honest/I don’t know if I’ll feel love/As I did when I was young/Anymore/He’s all that I wanted/But you’re the one I adore/There’s two things I know for sure/I love him/But I’ll always love you more.”

Track 3: “Sleepy”

The third track, “Sleepy,” and one of my personal favorites, is of course, a love song. This song is about the feeling of comfort you find within your partner and how it is unlike any other. Although the world is a scary place when with them, you’ve never felt safer. In the chorus of this one Kutcher sings,

"Used to wonder why/Why I get sleepy around you/I can finally close my eyes/Don’t wanna lay down without you/I don’t mind I don’t mind/Living my life at a slow pace/All that I need is your warm embrace/Never have I ever felt so safe/In my life in my life/I know that I/I wanna be around you/Every night every night.”

Track 4: “Emotionless”

The fourth track “Emotionless” is a song about craving the feeling of freedom from old feelings. Kutcher says this song is about wanting to feel less. She also says, “Specifically in a relationship where one person left so easily and you seem to be the only one holding onto all of the feelings.” During the chorus of this powerful track, Kutcher sings,

“Emotionless/I wanna feel emotions less/You’re out of my bed/So get out of my head/I-I-I-I-I-/I wanna be fine."

Track 5: “Only Love Me Broken”

Track 5, “Only Love Me Broken” is a song about how your growth affects those around you. People grow and change, and that path to self-love and self-improvement sometimes also causes you to outgrow those around you. Kutcher says, “Change is a normal part of life. Sometimes the scariest part about it is accepting that you may lose people that can’t change with you.” In the chorus, she sings,

"What if you only love me broken?/What if I change and you leave me behind?/What if I, what if I? What if I?/(What if I, what if I?)/What if I go and get stable? Would you find yourself unable to recognize? /What if I, what if I/Become someone you don’t like?”

Track 6: “Nothing’s All The Time”

The second to last track on the EP, “Nothing’s All The Time” is about the exhaustion that comes from fighting your battles. This track is for those whose mind feels like it is constantly going a mile a minute. In the chorus, Kutcher sings,

“Pull me out, pull me out, of this state of mind/Hold me down, hold me down, ‘til I realize/Nothing lasts, nothing last, nothings all the time/Nothing’s all the time.”

Track 7: “Do It All Again”

Lastly, the final track, “Do It All Again” takes listeners on a trip down memory lane. “Do It All Again” is a song about being unable to forget those you have loved in your past. In every verse, Kutcher sings her moving lyrics about coming to terms with past loves. In the chorus, she sings,

"“Who am I kidding?/I can’t pretend, I regret/(You-ou-ou-ou)/I still miss it/Time to time, I admit/I miss the spark as we burned every bridge/I’d ride the wave even if I knew/I’d drown again/(Who-ooh-ooh-ooh)/Who am I kidding?/I’d do it all again, all again.”
