Artist Cole DeGenova Releases Neo-Soul Track “Virgo Moon”

Chicago singer, jazz-trained pianist, and soulful songwriter Cole DeGenova his brand of funky neo-soul throughout 2024 with LA-based label 600 Block Records, starting with re-releasing his EP Dopamine before a brand new EP. He previously shared the EP a few years ago through a now-defunct Chicago label, and to make Cole Degenova have fresh again he’s sharing bonus tracks from the same sessions, including his previously unreleased “Virgo Moon.”

Cole wrote “Virgo Moon” to help accept his queerness, saying, “Told through the lens of my astrological birth chart, this song is about the process of exploring my sexuality deeper, especially the things that I had kept repressed for a long time. Having your moon sign in Virgo is said to be a little restrictive and introverted at times, so this song is about learning to step out of my comfort zone.”

Cole has been a live and touring member for artists such as Daniel Villarreal (Dos SantosInternational Anthem) and Neal Francis over the past two years, and he’s been a live band member for Gallant and more too. We released Cole’s last album Really Human off of Ropeadope in 2020, an album where he worked with legend Georgia Anne Muldrow, and he’s gearing up to share a new EP later this year with the label too.

The Chicago Reader called Cole the best pop artist in town last year, and he’s now a two-time recipient of Chicago’s DCASE arts grant, making him endorsed by the city in multiple ways now. He’ll be an LA local next week to begin his move before flying back to play with his band for Chicago’s Midsommar Fest (on June 7), and then heading down to Bonnaroo to play in Neal Francis’ backing band before returning to LA to finish his move.

He’ll have one more bonus track this summer (remix of the title track “Dopamine”) before re-releasing the EP as an extended edition later this summer (anticipating a July release).
