AFROPUNK BK Day 1 Brings The Roots & More

A celebration of community, music, and Black culture, AFROPUNK creates an inviting and effortlessly cool atmosphere that’s unlike any other. This weekend, AFROPUNK makes its triumphant return to Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn, hosting its first festival in its home borough since 2019. On Saturday, AFROPUNK Brooklyn picked up like it never left, offering an array of brilliant performances and activations that highlighted the local community.

Between sets by headliner The Roots, plus standout performers like Isaiah RashadFreddie GibbsTierra WhackDoechii, and many more, merchants sold handmade projects at the Spinthrift Market, local restaurants served hungry fans at AFROPUNK’s Bites ‘N Beats, Leyna Brown offered a Stand Up Against Street Harassment , and local fashion designers showed off their latest lines during AFROPUNK’s Style Noir fashion show. Local Brooklyn artists like Talia Goddess and Rodney Chrome made their presence felt onstage. On Friday, AFROPUNK hosted two Solutions Sessions, focusing on Black health and wellness, at The Gentlemen’s Factory in Fort Greene, sponsored by New Voices Foundation and the National Medical Association.
