This album is Sheeran’s sixth studio album, compared to his albums in the past being titled names such as ➗ , =, and x, he is stepping out and trying something new that would be unexpected for his fans. Along with trying something new, Sheeran decided to not release any singles before the album drop and to not release any music videos.
The artist having his own record label, Gingerbread Man Records, he is able to have a lot more creative freedom. Along with not having the stress of listening to someone else, he was able to perfect every song until he thought it should be released.
Sheeran over the years has said that he expresses his emotions through his songs and lyrics. The album was written during an emotional time for the artist. His songs off this album portray many different perspectives, the highs and lows of life, making his words connect with people from all over.
