Gregg Hall: Echoes from the Tree Tops Review

Gregg Hall, a musician, songwriter, and longtime Midwest live music veteran, has just released his new album, Echoes from the Tree Tops. The album’s somber cover artwork has a 70s rock album fell to it. Similarly, the album’s song’s sonic landscapes reflect that sentiment.

About Gregg Hall

Gregg Hall originates from the historic river-town/musical mecca La Crosse, Wisconsin. He comes from a large family of musicians and artists and graduated from University of Wisconsin, Stout. There, Hall got his first weekly gig at the Acoustic Cafe in downtown Menominee.

After his freshman year at Stout, he moved back to La Crosse and became a common face in the local music scene. Now, at 41 years old, he’s played on a dozen albums, recorded over 100 songs, and has performed at countless shows. Also, over the years, he’s shared bills with the likes of Shooter Jennings, Tom Snider, and Jackson Browne, just to name a few.

Echoes from the Tree Tops

Gregg Hall’s new album has an all new band lineup and their calling their new sonic direction “drifted rock”. Also, the album was recorded at legendary Pachyderm Studios, engineered by Nick Tveitbakk, mastered by Bruce Templeton, and produced by Chad Staehly. This new team with a new direction teamed up to create Hall’s first LP available on streaming services.

The album’s opening track, “Going Home”, has an exciting build up and follows a man on the road. Then, the second track, “Cardinal Song”, is quite different in tone and is about liberation for the writer. The album’s third track, “Feel the Light”, is an incredibly rockin’ song where Hall asks his God for help.

With his new album, Gregg Hall puts his passion for rocking – and music in general – on full display. The seven-song collection has the fire of a debut album, but the soul of the Midwest native he is. With impressive guitar riffs, intriguing lyrics, and variance within the tracklist, Echoes from the Tree Tops is definitely worth a listen.
