Niia Releases Jazz-Pop Video For “Throw My Head Out The Window”
Today, Italian-American jazz vocalist, pianist, and composer Niia released the raw, unfiltered music video for the new single “Throw My Head Out The Window,” from her forthcoming fifth studio album, V, slated for release on October 10 via Candid Records.
A poignant track with emotional depth and surges of synths, “Throw My Head Out The Window,” lives in the tension between control and collapse – the central motif of the new album. The single is intentionally over-orchestrated with strings, dissonant piano, and a vocal teetering between aria and tantrum. Featuring new wave jazz boundary pushers bassist Anna Butterss and Nicole McCabe on saxophone, the song’s sonic palette is as bold as its message. “Throw My Head Out The Window” plays like a jazz-noir fever dream, while the minimalist music video shows Niia letting go and finding liberation amidst the chaos.
“‘Throw My Head Out the Window’ is what happens when you can’t scream but can’t stay still either,” says Niia. “The wind does the screaming for you—fast enough to drown out the static, soft enough to remind you you’re still here. Grateful, free, all alone. That breath is just enough to keep me going. No makeup, no fancy clothes, no wild video concept, just me.”
She continues, “I also kept thinking of the dogs I pass in LA, ears back, eyes half-closed. Are they just watching the city blur by, or are they stealing a moment no one can take from them? For everyone who feels too deeply, for everyone who just needs one unobserved breath before moving forward—this is for you. ‘Where people like us go.’”
Returning to her roots (and first love), Niia set out to create her most personal and innovative record to date with co-producers Spencer Zahn, who is renowned for his lush soundscapes, and Lawrence Rothman (Angel Olsen, Kim Gordon, Kali Uchis). A culmination of years spent experimenting at the intersection of tradition and reinvention, V seamlessly blends the electronic textures of experimental pop with the thrilling interplay that only live, jazz-rooted musicianship can bring.
An unapologetic visionary, the LA-based provocateur gave listeners a preview of her boundary-blurring new music with the recently released singles, “Angel Eyes,” a reimagined version of the 1946 jazz standard by Matt Dennis & Earl B. Brent, and “Ronny Cammareri,” a slow-burning instrumental titled after Nicolas Cage’s character in Moonstruck.
Additionally, Niia will embark on the first leg of her European fall tour on October 4th in Cologne, Germany. The tour makes stops in Denmark, Switzerland, and Hungary, before wrapping on October 28th in Vienna, Austria. Full tour dates below, with more to come – get tickets and more information here.
