Taylor Swift: Witch Or Karmically Blessed?

Taylor Swift: Witch Or Karmically Blessed?

Taylor Swift has been a fixture of the music industry since she was in high school, and her career, no matter which direction it’s been going in, has been a talking point for other celebrities, news channels, and ordinary people. It’s no surprise that controversy and commotion go hand in hand. Swift has had her fair share of public disputes and feuds with other famous celebrities, genre, field, and age notwithstanding. From Kanye West to Katy Perry, celebrities have attempted to knock down Swift as she was climbing her way to the top— only to watch their own careers shatter as hers flourished. “Tayvoodoo”, as it’s affectionately referred to by her fans, has taken many who’ve voiced their criticism against Swift. It’s not as dramatic as hexing someone’s bloodline or taking their firstborn child, but it definitely signifies that Swift may have some greater supernatural power on her side when it comes to her success within the industry.

Kanye West and Katy Perry are two of the most prominent figures that come to mind, and also two of the most obvious examples of what “Tayvoodoo” can do to someone. West has repeatedly unburied the hatchet of a feud that’s lasted more than a decade; from harassing her onstage when she was nineteen to commissioning a wax figure of her naked body, West was seemingly incapable of allowing the other singer to go her own separate way. Despite the fact that the two occupy completely different niches within the music industry, Kanye West and Taylor Swift’s feud has become one of the most tweeted-about fights. In the years following, however, West has seen his own career, marriage, and friendships shatter, while Swift has slowly risen to global pop-stardom.

Katy Perry’s argument with Taylor Swift followed a similar vein— although the two were a bit quieter when it came to pointing fingers. Regardless, Swift seemingly put a similar unbreakable curse on the other woman when she released the 2015 single “Bad Blood”, rumoured to be about Perry. Since the release of the single, Perry has seen her own career steadily decline. Each consecutive album of hers does seemingly worse both commercially and critically.

While the question of “voodoo” is a bit supernatural, it’s undoubtedly true that Swift’s opps are swiftly punished. Whether it be by fans or the music industry gods, there’s definitely something going on— that should make people think twice before going up against the popstar. Check out more music news here.
