Shawn Mendes Announces Return With “On The Road Again” Tour
Shawn Mendes announces his return with the “On The Road Again” tour through Europe and North America on May 29th. Set to start on August 2nd, Mendes will begin in Pristina, Kosovo and end the tour in Los Angeles, California on October 17th. While on tour, Mendes is set to visit places such as Germany, the Netherlands, and Portugal to name a few. After abruptly ending his last tour, “Wonder: The World Tour”, for a mental health hiatus, fans are excited to see him back in action.
The real question…which bangers are appearing on the setlist? Shawn Mendes, popularly known as a pop singer, has a wide discography of popular songs ranging from 2015 to 2024. Beginning with his first album, Handwritten, Mendes tugged at our heartstrings with his single, Stitches. This upbeat tune reflects on a painful heartbreak, where Mendes associates the departure of his partner to needing stitches. He writes, “And now that I’m without your kisses, I’ll be needing stitches.” Another popular piece off the album, I Know What You Did Last Summer, is a vocal battle between Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. This high octave song addresses infidelity in a relationship that both partners are attempting to ignore. Both Mendes and Cabello created a beautiful vocal cry that embraces an emotional clash.
From there, Mendes’ created the Illuminate album in 2016, popularizing songs like There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back, Mercy, and Treat You Better. This complexity of songs enticed fans, allowing them to feel understood and connected to Mendes as an artist.
However, his latest album released in 2024, Shawn, differs from the rest as he prioritizes telling his own story through the reflection of his life. The calm yet riveting strum of his guitar invites vocal intricacies that engulf the listener from the beginning to the end. In the first song, Who I Am, Mendes says “Cause’ I don’t really know who I am right now”, proclaiming his journey of self-discovery. This piece is personal; one might even characterize it as a love letter to his fans as he reflects on the cancellation of his previous tour and letting down the ones closest to him.
The “On The Road Again” tour is not only a revival for Shawn Mendes to reconnect with the musicality he’s known since 2015, but also a homage to the longevity of his career. While fans are unsure which songs Mendes will highlight in his return, it is clear that the experience will be a nostalgic one. Be sure to stay tuned for the artist presale on June 4th at 10 a.m. or the public onsale on June 6th at 10 a.m. You do not want to miss the opportunity to see Shawn Mendes on tour!
