Portland’s POSY Shares New Single, “Mount Yufu”
POSY returns to Bastard Jazz with the atmospheric Jazz / Lo-fi Fusion track “Mount Yufu”. Recorded exclusively on analog gear using all live instrumentations, the song is evocative of the late 70s sounds of Earl Klugh, Bob James and Spyro Gyra. The song kicks off with a sprinkling of Rhodes before bringing in hand percussion and a light drum break while an understated acoustic guitar line floats besides beautiful whispering flutes from Seb Zillner weaving in and out of the track.
POSY is the recording name of Rudy Klobas, Portland-based producer and multi-instrumentalist with a unique sound that blends elements of jazz, R&B, and electronic music.
In 2021, POSY released the ‘Abroad EP,’ marking his debut as an artist. The EP was inspired by a period of time spent traveling Japan in early 2019. Throughout the course of the month-long trip, Rudy carried around a portable recorder, capturing various sounds that caught his ear. That collection of found sounds eventually became the foundation for the EP, each track utilizing a variety of field recordings to create a unique blend of organic and electronic textures.
In 2023 he released the ‘I Know A Place EP’ which explored more jazz influences compared to previous releases. Further embracing an analog approach to production, Rudy utilized reel-to-reel tape and entirely live instrumentation to create lush, cinematic soundscapes inspired by contemporary lo-fi pioneers like J Dilla and Nujabes.
