Sylvan Esso’s New Artist-Led Label ‘Psychic Hotline’ Predicts Music’s Future

The future of music lies in the hands of artists who don’t have to give up any creative freedom to release their art. To support this, Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn of band Sylvan Esso, and manager Martin Anderson, have launched Psychic Hotline. Their independent artist-run label aims to support artists and increase opportunities for a music release.

About Sylvan Esso

Sylvan Esso started with Meath writing lyrics and singing while Sanborn created the beats. However, over time their roles have morphed and intertwined, allowing them to explore new territory in music. They call themselves a pop band, but they don’t want to be mainstream. “We’re trying to make pop songs that aren’t on the radio because they’re too weird,” Meath says in their Spotify bio

The Creation of Psychic Hotline

Sylvan Esso’s members understand the struggles of releasing music. So, they created Psychic Hotline to give musical artists control over their releases and make the process more accessible. Meath and Sanborn emphasize the importance of giving artists creative freedom and lifting their voices.

“[Psychic Hotline is a]n artist-led enterprise that strives to do right in radical ways by the creators who entrust us with their work; in the deals we make, the way we do business and the way we center the art and the artist,” the founders expressed in a press release

Based in Durham, N.C., the band’s hometown, Psychic Hotline’s initial lineup includes tracks from Anjimile, Peach Fuzz, The Tallest Man on Earth, Uwade, and more.

First Release “Neon Blue”
