Timeless Handbags Worn by the British Royal Family

Handbags are eternal in the world of fashion and have become an essential statement piece throughout generations which is especially true in the British royal family. The royals have carried classic handbags that add a precious touch to any ensemble they sport. Here are timeless handbags worn by Queen Elizabeth II, the late Princess Diana, Kate Middleton, and Megan Markle of the British Royal Family. 

Queen Elizabeth II – Launer Handbag

Queen Elizabeth II first adopted a Launer handbag in the 1950s when it was gifted to her by her mother. She treasures this purse so much, that it is rumored she owns over 200 of three different versions of the bag which includes; the black leather Royale, the black patent Traviata, and a custom made version. So far, she has worn many versions of this bag for many iconic appearances which includes her meeting U.S. presidents Nixon and Clinton for the first time. This item has become her signature piece over the decades making her one of Launer’s most loyal customers.

Princess Diana – “Lady Dior” Handbag

Princess Diana was a pure class act, everything she touched became exquisite. A handbag that she favorited was her “Lady Dior” bag. The bag was released in 1994, and was gifted to her by France’s First Lady, Bernadette Chirac, for her visit to the Cézanne exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris. The bag was since cherished by the princess and soon became her go-to handbag. She wore it in many different versions to a plethora of appearances with one being to a children’s home in Birmingham in 1995. The bag actually had no official name when it was released, and was named “Lady Dior” in honor of the princess in 1996. “Lady Dior” became one of Dior’s most iconic pieces. 

Kate Middleton – “Midi Mayfair” Handbag

The “Midi Mayfair” bag from Aspinal of London is favorited by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. The bag is handmade in Spain, and is crafted with Italian calf leather that is polished with a high-end shine. She first wore the accessory in 2013, and notably carries it in the colors lilac and black. It has been her handbag of choice for several appearances such as her visit to the the Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in October 2018 where she sported it in black. She opted for the lilac one during her appearance at Royale Opera House in early 2019.

Megan Markle – Strathberry Handbag

The Duchess of Sussex, Megan Markle, first appeared wearing a Strathberry Midi tote handbag in 2017 while carrying out her first royal engagement in Nottingham. This sent fans into a frenzy causing the bag to sell out in minutes on the Strathberry website. Since then, Strathberry has become her preferred handbag brand, and has so far worn a multitude of versions which includes two different Midi tote’s in tan and tricolor, and one Mini crossbody in bottle green.
