Gieves & Hawkes AW25: Eyes in the Sky A Tribute to Courage
London, August 11, 2025, for Autumn/Winter 2025, Gieves & Hawkes looks to the clouds, drawing inspiration from the fearless WWII fighter pilots who shaped history. Eyes in the Sky is not simply a collection; it’s a living narrative of courage, resilience, and sacrifice, woven into every stitch.
At the heart of the collection are the stories of Squadron Leader Dick Churchill, one of the last surviving participants of the legendary Great Escape, and reconnaissance pilot Sandy Gunn, whose life was tragically cut short in 1942. Their legacy is more than a historical footnote; it’s a reminder of the human spirit under pressure, of strategy, daring, and the kind of bravery that lingers long after the roar of engines fades.
Craft Meets Narrative
Military-inspired silhouettes and masterful tailoring anchor AW25, striking a balance between utility and timeless elegance. British and Italian textile innovation takes centre stage. Think wool-cashmere blends, melange wools, and patina leathers that carry the weight of history while feeling distinctly modern. One of the standout details: original Spitfire technical drawings, reimagined in intricate silk jacquards, turning wartime engineering into wearable art.
Collaboration with Legacy-Makers
In a unique creative partnership, Gieves & Hawkes worked with Bellerby & Co. Globemakers to craft a historically accurate, hand-painted map highlighting key locations from Churchill and Gunn’s missions. This cartographic tribute appears as bespoke linings and accessories, adding depth to the storytelling. The brand also joins forces with Spitfire AA810, a foundation dedicated to restoring a downed reconnaissance aircraft and preserving the history of the Photo Reconnaissance Unit.
A Colour Palette Steeped in Symbolism
The AW25 palette mirrors the skies and landscapes of wartime Europe — deep military greens, heritage browns, and slate greys, punctuated by flashes of turquoise and bold red. Each hue is pulled directly from flight suits, insignia, and the boundless expanse above the clouds.
Heritage with Purpose
Founded in 1771, Gieves & Hawkes has held a Royal Warrant for every British monarch since George III. Today, the house continues to define quiet luxury, blending bespoke tradition with progressive ready-to-wear collections. More than 60% of its pieces are crafted in Britain, safeguarding the craft of tailoring through apprenticeships and training at its legendary No.1 Savile Row address.
With Eyes in the Sky, Gieves & Hawkes proves that courage never goes out of style — and that true legacy is measured not only in years, but in the stories a garment chooses to tell.
