Illumination & Nintendo Release New Trailer for “Super Mario Galaxy”
Illumination and Nintendo have released a new trailer for the upcoming “Super Mario Galaxy Movie” which revealed that a beloved character of the famous video game franchise is coming to the big screen: Yoshi.
The well known green dinosaur, who made his first video game appearance in “Super Mario World” in 1990, will be teaming up with brothers Mario & Luigi in a marvelous adventure across the galaxy to face off against Bowser Jr., the son of the classic Mario villain Bowser.
The new trailer was released as a special “Nintendo Direct” on January 25, 2026. Along with this major character announcement, the companies also announced that the film’s release date will be moved up from April 3, 2026 to April 1 in the United States and other countries (with the exception of an April 24 release date in Japan and other markets).

The upcoming film is a sequel to the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie which followed the iconic plumber duo in their first animated film feature. The original cast including Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Jack Black (Bowser) and many others will be returning for the sequel and will be joined by Benny Safdie voicing Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson voicing Rosalina.
Along with the voice cast, director-duo Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will be returning as well and are joined by returning screenwriter Matthew Fogel, for the films score Brian Tyler (who has also worked on the hit series “Yellowstone” and video games such as “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” (2011)) will also be returning to compose an original soundtrack.
