CORTADO – New Coffee Spot in LA by Spanish Actor Jhon Mejia

A new coffee pop-up “Cortado” has opened at the Silver Lake restaurant Bar Siesta. The pop-up, with the opening date of July 24th, is a project by Spanish actor and filmmaker Jhon Mejia, who can now add “roaster” to his resume.

Jhon Mejia is the founder of his own production company, 7 Dali Productions, where he created, directed, and executive produced the LATV talk show “You, Me, and Joe.” The show could be described as a coffee-focused version of Amelia Dimoldenberg’s “Chicken Shop Date,” where the host Cinthya Carmona interviews special guests about their lives and careers over a cup of coffee.

Mejia’s love of coffee continues with this pop-up, and Cortado as a shop will also be documented and involved in an upcoming project that he is working on.

While you often walk into a coffee shop in the morning and are met with a bustling, rushed environment, the vibe of Cortado is meant to be relaxed, advertising on Instagram as “coming together over a shared love for breakfast, coffee, and slow mornings,” telling customers to expect “that unhurried feeling we all crave.” The pop-up creates an environment encouraging customers not to rush out with their to-go cup, but to have a seat and stay for a while, chess boards laid out on the tables. Cortado is a place to make an experience out of, to create community out of – to bring a few friends on a free morning over the weekend.

Cortado will be open Thursday through Monday from 7AM to 12PM, where they will be serving Mejia’s signature cortado and other coffee drinks, along with food like Spanish-style tostadas, pan con tomate, and jamón. If you live in Los Angeles and are interested in visiting, head over to 1710 Silver Lake Blvd to get a taste of Cortado.
