Flairbywinnie – A Flawless Blend of Artistry and Entrepreneurship
The glam and bridal looks done by Dubai-based makeup artist Winifred Akpoviri, also known as her instagram handle and beauty business Flairbywinnie, show an absolute mastery in her craft. Flawless bases and perfectly blended eyeshadow – glam that looks like it was airbrushed by heaven onto the lucky client’s face. She provides teaching of her skills through virtual makeup courses on her website, where she also has a shop that sells luxury mink eyelashes. We had the pleasure to interview Flairbywinnie and ask her a few questions about her work and inspirations as a makeup artist, her work as an entrepreneur, and what her plans are for the future.
You’re based in Dubai, but have roots in Nigeria. What brought you to the UAE?
I was at a point in my life where I wanted more for myself so I moved to the UAE for its vibrant business opportunities and cultural diversity. I knew my business was going to thrive here. At the time I moved there weren’t a lot of black makeup artists so that was a pointer for me and it has since been amazing. The country’s cosmopolitan population has been instrumental in my growth as a makeup artist.
What do your Nigerian roots bring to your makeup artistry?
My Nigerian roots bring a unique flair to my artistry, influencing my style, creativity and versatility. I’m proud to incorporate elements of my heritage into my work.
You’re also an entrepreneur, providing virtual makeup courses to teach others your ways. What inspired you to start providing e-courses?
I started providing virtual makeup courses to share my knowledge and empower others. It’s fulfilling to see students grow and develop their skills. Many times I get request about physical trainings but then some of these requests are from people who are far from me, so by creating my virtual courses I’m able to reach a large number of people globally.
What has it been like to do makeup for celebrity clients, including icons like Naomi Campbell and Taraji P. Henson?
Working with celebrity clients the likes of Naomi Campbell and Taraji P. Henson e.t.c. has been an incredible experience. It’s a thrill to see my work featured in media and on iconic faces. It has given my brand “Flairbywinnie” a sense of reliability, credibility and trust.
What is your favorite part of doing bridal makeup?
Bridal makeup is a favorite part of my job. I love being part of a couple’s special day, bringing their vision to life and the incredible moment my bride is absolutely happy about her makeup just makes me whole. It literally gives me a sense of reassurance that I’m meant to do this.
What are some of your favorite products to use?
I adore using products like Armani, Lancôme, Estée Lauder, Huda Beauty, Flairbywinnie Beauty, Kosas, Mac, Nyx, MilkMakeup, Kyrolan, Sephora, Fenty. Their quality and range help me achieve flawless looks.
Lastly, do you have any plans going forward as an entrepreneur?
As for plans, I’m exploring new collaborations with beauty brands, hoping to introduce a new product to Flairbywinnie Beauty. The future looks bright!
