Williams: Icona Pop And The NBA Playoffs Makes Sense To Me

As the calendar is almost ready to turn to May, the NBA Playoffs are ramping up as they just get started with the first round of the series tournament having already begun last weekend. With that in mind, I wanted to pick a song that really resents with the aura of the playoffs in my personal opinion and a certain artist by the name of Icona Pop hit my radar.

Looking through my plethora of music in my own personal catalog of over 2,500 songs from almost every genre, I noticed it became a bit of a challenge to really put the essence of the Playoffs in just one song. I say this under the notion that the NBA Playoffs are my favorite postseason in all of sports. It doesn’t get better than a basketball series that has the potential to go seven games in my book. When it came down to nailing a song I went with one that would be perfect in an playoff promo and has words that also could relate to the players and possibly what they could be feeling during this time of the year for them.

With all of that being said, I chose Icona Pop’s 2013 hit “All Night” from their album This Is…Icona Pop.

Icona Pop is a Swedish electron duo of Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt. They formed this two-woman group in Stockholm in 2009. The pair met at a party, where they felt an immediate connection and formed the group the following day.

“We always dreamed about this better life, this better life

we always felt it coming all along, yeah all along

we got the keys to open paradise, yeah paradise

now let’s go waking hand and hand…”

The lyrics could really relate to what a possible NBA player could be thinking as they prepare for these playoff games that could make or break their entire season.
