Tate McRae Releases New Single “Sports Car”
On January 24, pop singer and dancer, Tate McRae released the 3rd single of her newest album, So Close To What. This song comes after the release of two other singles from the album, “It’s OK I’m OK” and “2 Hands”.
The production of “Sports Car” has been compared to the production style of Timbaland, the American rapper and producer. Specifically, to his song “Promiscuous Girl” with Nelly Furtado released in 2006. Both songs feature futuristic and quirky sounds along with memorable club beats.
McRae has taken this style of music production and put a modern spin on it. Paired with her unique vocals and the song’s catchy melody it has climbed the charts. “Sports Car” currently has over 2,376,000 streams worldwide.
McRae takes listeners on a lyrical journey that details her hesitance to be locked into a relationship. But in turn, she finds herself being empowered in embracing the thrill of sexuality in the metaphor of driving a sports car.
Music Video
To accompany the song, McRae released a music video. The music video shows the singer in a variety of rooms with different props for each. She incorporated a few notable props including a horse, a stack of mattresses, and a tank full of water. Each room also featured McRae with a hair and outfit change.
McRae uses her TikTok account, with 11.4 million followers, as a way to promote her music. As one of her most creative videos to date, she referred to this project as “my fav music video I’ve ever done” and posted behind-the-scenes photos and videos. McRae bragged about her team’s creative process and that they managed to shoot 12 looks in one day for this video.
This album, So Close To What is scheduled to drop on February 21st. If the world’s reaction to “Sports Car” is any prediction of how the album will be received, Tate McRae might be looking at her best work yet.
