Sir Woman Drops New Single “Believe It Or Not”

Singer-songwriter Kelsey Wilson aka Sir Woman recently released her new single “Believe It Or Not.” The song features on the much anticipated If It Doesn’t, the second half of her double album, which releases on May 16. The first half, If It All Works Out, is out now. You can listen to it here

With “Believe It Or Not,” Sir Woman transports the listener to heartbreak city in a different time. Specifically, to a bygone era of smoky discotheques, bell-bottoms, and platform shoes. The track opens with a funky fervency, pulling listeners right into its foot-tapping, yet soulful milieu. The combination of piano and synth in the buildup adds raw texture, offering a close-up to the singer’s poignancy. This confluence along with Sir Woman’s vocals also allows the piece to suffuse into its business end effortlessly.

Perfect Blend Of Sentiment and Spirit

The song’s quirky pace, while espousing deeper sentimentalism, never creates a discordant rift throughout. During the choral interludes, Sir Woman’s vocals become pronounced, emphasizing words for added effect. This approach works as it underscores the singer’s pathos – a deep longing for unreciprocated love.

Kelsey Wilson (Sir Woman), Jonathan Deas, Jason Burt and Roy Patten Jr wrote the lyrics, which are relatable and potent. Instead of choosing a plaintive tone, the lyrics celebrate agency even in one-sided love, emphasizing that best things aren’t left unsaid. Talking about the song, Sir Woman details, “It is unrequited love, but you love this person so much that you don’t care.”

With 456,790 monthly listeners and 30 million streams on Spotify, Kelsey Wilson’s “other main project,” Sir Woman is here for the long run. The Austin-based Wilson simultaneously doubles as the lead vocalist and violinist for the indie pop band Wild Child.
