Sam Gellaitry Releases “Curious”
Producer, DJ, singer, and songwriter Sam Gellaitry has announced details of his long-awaited debut album, ANYWHERE HERE IS PERFECT, out November 7 on Major Recordings / Warner Records. The news was broken alongside today’s release of album single “CURIOUS (feat. Toro y Moi)”, which premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record with Jack Saunders and arrives paired with a Dan Franco–directed music video that portrays Sam and Toro performing the song at a euphoric karaoke party. The announcement comes on the heels of last month’s “START UP A RUMOUR” single release, now also revealed to be a part of the upcoming body of work, as well as news of a trio of US dates this October in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York (full dates below) in the midst of his run of DJ sets supporting Justice, Kaytranada, and Madeon.
ANYWHERE HERE IS PERFECT marks Gellaitry’s first full-length project, a twelve-track culmination of years of sonic exploration across a series of acclaimed EPs (Escapism, IV) and collaborations with innovators spanning from Kaytranada, PinkPantheress, GoldLink, salute, METTE, and more. With each subsequent release and production Gellaitry has steadily expanded his kaleidoscopic sound while affirming himself as one of electronic music’s most adventurous new voices. Earlier this year “Assumptions” from his 2021 EP, IV, surged to over 500K daily streams, breaking into TikTok’s Viral Top 50 chart, landing in the top 10 of YouTube’s Global Top Songs on Shorts, and #2 globally on Shazam’s Viral Top 50, Top 200, and Global Electronic charts. He also appeared as the face of Stone Island’s Stellina Spring-Summer ‘25 Collection campaign.
“CURIOUS” marks a milestone moment for the Scottish producer and songwriter, pairing his vivid, synesthesia-informed production with Toro y Moi’s genre-defying vocals, declaring the beginning of a new era. Speaking about the single, Gellaitry says: “[This song] is about being curious about someone in a social setting who you’ve not met before and the playful back and forth that happens mentally. I sent CURIOUS to Toro, he sent a verse back and it was just perfect. It was so crazy to hear his voice on my stuff – it was just such a blessing to have him be part of this project. He’s one of my biggest inspirations. It fell into place very naturally, and hopefully it’s the first of many.”
Toro y Moi adds: “Sam sent me the full project and asked me to pick one [track] to sing on. The production on CURIOUS really stood out to me – it’s very forward thinking and very much in line with where my ears are. It sort of felt like this was our chance to make some music. I churned out more than enough lyrics – I wanted Sam to have enough to play around with and chop it up, just piecemeal it. To have something produced by Sam with me singing on it is cool. Sam’s got the sauce.”
With “CURIOUS,” “START UP A RUMOUR,” and the impending ANYWHERE HERE IS PERFECT, Gellaitry fully steps into the spotlight, presenting a technicolour vision years in the making.
