Philly’s Besphrenz Release “yeah”
Philly-born experimental trio Besphrenz have announced their debut full-length record, bert – due on October 24th, 2025. Lacing elements of indie-rock and R&B, the album features dual vocalists C.J. Smith and Tay Richardson behind producer and instrumentalist Rob Devious’s layered indie-soul soundscape, especially on yeah.
Accompanying the album announcement is lead single “yeah,” featuring Philly rock mainstays Anthony Green (Circa Survive) and Keith Goodwin (Good Old War). “yeah” finds Besphrenz trading vocals back-and-forth with Anthony and Keith over a lulling indie backtrack as R&B elements anchor a swaying downtempo rhythm.
Speaking about his feature on “yeah”, Anthony Green, said “When Keith asked me about this project I instantly said yes. Rob has been an essential part of my last few records and all the stuff they work on is so inspired. I’m honored to be a part of this song”
Keith Goodwin replied in a similar vein, “I’m always down to make music with Besphrenz. They have created a very free flowing creative space where all ideas are heard and welcomed. “yeah” is cool to me because it reminds me of “Scenerio” in that everyone in this group of friends gets a verse.”
The “yeah” music video features the Pennsylvania shed where the album was produced by the three musicians. An homage to their backyard-built roots, the trio, along with Anthony and Keith, pass off the microphone in The Shed as each takes their turn sharing their verses while hypnotic visuals fill the space.
Introspective, unadulterated, and not intentionally derivative of anything else – bert draws comparisons to the soft, dream-laced sounds of late 2010’s bedroom pop fused with hazy, synth-driven R&B. Hoping to capture the feelings of nostalgia that the mundanity of life can bring about, Besphrenz produced bert from the perspective of self-reflection that ultimately leads to creation and realization. This led lead vocalists Tay and C.J. to coining the album, bert, after band member and producer Robert Deckhart A.K.A Rob Devious.
Besphrenz (pronounced Best Friends) is a genre-blending trio from Philadelphia made up of Rob, Tay, and CJ – real-life best friends who’ve been creating music together since they were kids. Their sound is rooted in nostalgia, playful energy, and shared love for pushing boundaries. What started in a shed turned into a bond, and then into Besphrenz.
First finding their footing in the early 2020’s bedroom-pop space, the trio has been featured on Spotify’s lorem, All New indie, and Ultimate Indie playlists. They were one of the first bands to ever be featured on the Bedroom Pop playlist, paving their way as trailblazers of the genre. Their early work also caught the attention of Zane Lowe and BBC Radio 1, having earned them airtime on both shows.
