Marsha Ambrosius Unveils Single, “Greedy”
Today, GRAMMY®-nominated soul icon Marsha Ambrosius shared her powerful new single, “Greedy,” taken from her forthcoming album CASABLANCO, which was executive produced by Dr. Dre. Accompanied by string and horn sections, she gives a genre-bending, tour de force vocal performance, gliding between scat, hip- hop, jazz and R&B as she weaves the tale of a tumultuous relationship. Dre and Ambrosius produced the track with Erik “Blu2th” Griggs and Focus… The song nods to Leon Russell’s “This Masquerade” and OutKast’s “SpottieOttieDopaliscious” and incorporates a sample of “Abm_analogic 145bpm” by Jeff Baranowski and Luke Milano. Set for June 28 release via Aftermath/Interscope Records, CASABLANCO is the R&B hitmaker’s first studio album since 2018’s NYLA. Ambrosius’ collaboration with Dr. Dre was sparked when he asked her to lend her inimitable vocals to some tracks he was working on. They soon decided to create an album together. The album also includes the hits “The Greatest,” which was praised as “stunning” by HipHopDX and heavily featured in ESPN’s 2023 Heisman Trophy promos, and the atmospheric soul anthem “One Night Stand.”
Variety singled out Ambrosius’ performance at the 2024 Roots Picnic in Philadelphia as one of the event’s “best moments” and noted, “If the deeply emotional ‘The Greatest,’ performed during her Picnic slot, is any indication of what’s to come, her Dre album will be worth the wait.” Ambrosius will perform at the Louisville Funk Fest on June 22.
