Lil Man J Wants To “Pick You Up” With His New Country Anthem
Finding his groove in the country space after loving the genre for years, Lil Man J is an artist to keep on your radar heading into the new year. Today, he keeps the momentum high following a year of viral success with “Pick You Up,” his new single. Produced by Aaron Zuckerman (Keith Urban, Hunter Hayes, Machine Gun Kelly), the track finds J telling a small town love story, hoping his girl will appreciate life in the country as much as he does: “I just wanna pick you up, small town livin’ in a big ol’ truck / I don’t wanna say too much, real talk girl we could fall in love / Somewhere out in Carolina, got a place where they can’t find us.” In the “Pick You Up” video, J heads to Nashville, where he croons outside of the honky-tonks on Broadway and takes photos with adoring fans. The upbeat anthem has already caught the attention of fans on socials, racking up over five million views and hundreds of thousands of likes across platforms.
J explains the inspiration behind the song, saying,“I wanted to write a fun song after ‘Way Out,’ which is very serious, and I came up with the idea of a country boy meeting a city girl and showing her how much fun small town living can be. I made “Pick You Up” in Nashville with producer Aaron Zuckerman and some co-writers who’ve had Country and Pop hits. I knew this was a banger with a hit chorus as soon as we made the initial demo.”
“Pick You Up” continues Lil Man J’s incredible story, which started in the small town of Clover, South Carolina (just outside of Charlotte) where he was born. He grew up steeped in music, inhaling everything he could find–country, rock, hip-hop, and more–and writing his own songs in multiple genres. His rap song, “Cap Freestyle,” generated 30 million streams across platforms after its 2022 release. Even as he gained attention as a rapper, he kept his passion for country music alive, demonstrating his vocal ability with a cover of Zach Bryan’s “Something In The Orange” on TikTok.
Over the summer, he excited his loyal community of fans with “Whiskey For The Wine,” surprising fans who didn’t know his range. The song immediately gained traction, racking up tens of millions of streams, earning him a legion of new fans (including Jelly Roll, who sang the song while on stream), and placements in key country playlists on Spotify (including Next From Nashville, Fresh Finds Country, All New Country, and more) and Apple Music (including Today’s Country, Today’s Hits, Viral Country, and more). Now fully committed to making country music, the artist struck again with “Way Out,” another heartfelt country ballad and the “Whiskey For The Wine” Remix ft. That Mexican OT (480k+ YT views). Most recently, J got into the Christmas spirit, sharing holiday single “Hey Mrs. Claus.”
What makes Lil Man J’s success even more impressive is that he has major physical disabilities: scoliosis (curved spine), distal arthrogryposis (immovable joints in his fingers), a cleft palate, and two clubbed feet. Overcoming these challenges with a smile on his face, J continues to rack up achievements at an astounding rate, inspiring fans to pursue their dreams despite their obstacles.
Now signed to Blac Noize!, Lil Man J is ready to take the country world by storm. Stay tuned for much more.
