Ger Carriere Revels In Sweetness On “Honeybees”

Ger Carriere enters a new arena with her latest single, “Honeybees,” an offering from her upcoming EP. While her previous work has focused on edges, attitude, and sensuality, the new song is more open, more carefree, yet more thoughtful. It’s not so much a departure as a reinterpretation, and one that highlights her control over mood, tone, texture and feel.

The production itself is minimalist yet effective, making use of space and sound. Nothing feels overly cluttered. Everything feels as if it has space to breathe, creating a sense of movement that is not hurried, nor stagnant. Carriere is making use of this space vocally, sitting right behind the beat and drawing out her words to a level that feels almost conversational, as if she’s having thoughts that are happening live. There’s a bit of a push against the structure that makes this track, a looseness that is kept together.

What stands out most is the atmosphere. “Honeybees” leans into a slower, open pace, where everything is unforced, and nothing is rushed. The confidence is subtle, felt in the performance rather than stated.

“Honeybees” comes in the succession of a steady rise to prominence for Carriere. Her earlier single “Can I Be Her” was a success, earning a Real People Playoffs win, achieving a five-week run on MBC, and securing a spot in the MBC Hall of Fame, while maintaining a seven-week run at #1 on the Sask INDG Countdown and achieving #1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown, which aired on SiriusXM on Jan 12, 2026. The following single, “Are You My Type,” continues to build on this momentum, achieving #3 on the Saskatchewan Indigenous Top 5 Countdown. It’s not so much a rise to fame as it is building to it.

With “Honeybees,” Carriere once again expands her scope, entering another space but remaining utterly recognizable. It’s a change in tone rather than identity, and another step forward for her ahead of her upcoming EP release.
