Ezekiel Jordan Releases Dakou, An 8-Track Beat Tape
DAKOU is an 8-track instrumental tape built from cassette flips, inspired by 1990s Chinese underground cassette culture. “Dakou” (打口) tapes, western CDs and cassettes marked as “scrap,” were smuggled and traded on the Chinese black market, shaping a generation of producers discovering foreign music through limited access.
Ezekiel Jordan channels that spirit of accidental discovery: woozy soul, gospel, and jazz samples warped and chopped, layered with dusty, off-kilter drums, found audio snippets, and spliced ad-libs.
ABOUT EZEKIEL JORDAN
Ezekiel Jordan is a New York City-based producer working with soul, jazz, and gospel samples pulled from cassettes, vinyl, and obscure sources. His sound draws from the swing and texture of producers like Knxwledge and Ohbliv – loose drums, warped loops, and atmosphere over precision. DAKOU is his latest project of 2025, following entries into his beat tape series slivers, the remix collection reassembly line, his collaborative album LUNACy! with Shah Leezy, and the standalone project DIM.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
DAKOU is entirely self-produced, mixed, and mastered.
