Chicocurlyhead & YUNA Say “I’ll Show You”
Ahead of the release of his latest EP Neverending Roadtrip, Chicocurlyhead reached out to Yuna for a collaboration on an upcoming single. Both artists, admired for their genre-blending styles and distinct cultural backgrounds—Panama-born and Atlanta-raised Chico paired with Malaysian-born, LA-based Yuna—found common ground in their shared vision of creating space for diverse voices within the R&B genre. Yuna, who has collaborated with the likes of Usher, Pharrell, Tyler The Creator, Jhene Aiko, Little Simz, Pink Sweat$, G-Eazy, and TOKiMONSTA, responded promptly, expressing her admiration for the artist’s music and talented songwriting abilities. Along with the help of producers Different Sleep (known for producing Kaytranada and Kehlani), BeatsByAdrian and FRNCH, “I’ll Show You” was born, resulting in a hypnotic and intoxicating amapiano-inspired single. The official music video and song—directed by Olivia De Camps and produced by DRKT (Feid, J Balvin, Versace)—are out now on Youtube and across all streaming platforms via Zarpazo Records, a division of HYBE Latin America.
“I’ll Show You” takes cues from afrobeat, latin pop and R&B – all wrapped together with an infectious hook that breathes even more life into this incredible tune. “I’ll Show You” is not just a traditional love song. Chico hoped the lyrics would resonate not only with a lover, but to all matters of cherished people in one’s life. “Oh Imma show you, Si tú me llamas, I will not ignore you” Chico sings in the opening hook, conveying a sense of devotion. “I wanted you to see how much I love you, I promise to adore you” he continues. This type of devotion resonates all throughout the song, however, the messaging hits even harder knowing the process that went into the writing of the hook.
“This song was really about showing up for someone when they need you , the process of this song was probably the smoothest ever, I was singing to my son while I was showering him and the hook for this song came out while I was freestyling. To have Yuna join me on the track made the song even better.”
Continuing off of Chicocurlyhead’s effortless Spanish to English transitions comes in Yuna, who’s sultry voice adds a layer of mesmerizing flow to the track. “You’re the sunrise and I’m the moon, no one else could compare to you” she vocalizes, continuing the theme of dedication that Chicocurlyhead aimed to express. Yuna continues on the track “So even though you will never show it, from the light in your eyes I know it” expressing that even though your counterpart may not be able to reciprocate, you know from the look in their eyes that they feel the same. The song ends with a jazzy saxophone riff, evoking a warm and seductive tone that invites listeners to move and dance, perfectly matching the passion captured throughout the entire track.
Chicocurlyhead’s skillful songwriting abilities are on full display here and “I’ll Show You” proves to be a highlight in the artists’ already stacked music library. Last month, the artist was a featured performer of this year’s Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) in New York City, where he also received the coveted 2024 LAMC Discovery Award (whose past recipients include music stars Nathy Peluso, Carla Morrison, Ile, Jesse Baez, Buscabulla, A. Chal, among others). He also made his New York City television performance debut on Good Day New York as well as appeared on New York Public Radio WNYC’s “All of It”.
Coming off the high of his recent New York City press run, Chicocurlyhead shows no signs of slowing down. With more music on the horizon and an ever-growing fanbase, he is poised to continue his rise as one of the most exciting new voices in music.
