A 2020 song by Charli XCX has miraculously returned to the spotlight and is now trending on TikTok. The song, “party 4 u” was released in May 2020 with her album How I’m Feeling Now.
Brat Album
Charli XCX released Brat last summer and took the world by storm. The Brat album featured rave and club sounds with “bratty” lyrics. Its unique electronic theme and messy dance aesthetic made it a huge hit with a wide range of listeners.
This album was heavily inspired by the London rave scene the singer is familiar with. She balances the message of being a celebrity, a woman, and of general vulnerability and somehow makes it relatable and fun to dance to.
Charli XCX accompanied Troye Sivan on their joint Sweat Tour to promote their albums Brat and Something to Give Each Other. The North American tour began in September last year and concluded a month later. Fans who attended this tour enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime club experience with high-energy performances from both singers.
This album was well received by the masses considering it was nominated for 7 Grammys this year. Charli XCX ended up taking home the Grammy for Best Dance Pop Recording for her song “Von Dutch”. She also won awards for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Recording Package for the Brat album.
In recent weeks, her song “Party 4 u” has resurfaced and began trending on TikTok with thousands of videos posted of creators lip-syncing to the song. This trend has been influenced by the drag performer Coco Montrese. Creators are mimicking her performance from Season 5 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race where she pointed to her mouth as she lip-synced. Montrese made this gesture to ensure the judges saw every word she was saying.
Charli XCX noticed the song was trending and even contributed a few videos of her own, minus the drag queen’s gesture.
