Aubrie Sellers Releases New Single “Subatomic”

Today, Nashville-based artist Aubrie Sellers announces her edgy new studio album Attachment Theory, due out March 20 via Casual Records | Carnival Recording Company, which offers a poignant reflection on romantic relationships and how our brain chemistry alters while navigating the hellscape of modern dating. Accompanying the album release will be the launch of Sellers’ podcast, which features heartfelt explorations of each song’s theme and the psychological theory behind it. The first episode of Attachment Theory: The Podcast, “Villain of the Week,” delves into how dating apps attract emotionally unavailable people, and is out tomorrow, January 14 on X. Alongside the official announcement, Sellers has released a powerful new single, “Subatomic.”

Speaking on “Subatomic,” Aubrie Sellers shares“This song is about a partner who criticizes you and makes you feel small. Avoidants often do this as a way of subconsciously distancing themselves, and when you’re on the receiving end it slowly erodes your self-esteem. It’s framed as honesty, but really it’s a lack of emotional intelligence in how they communicate. Sonically, this track kicked off the sci-fi, spacey feel of the record and gets you into that almost spiritual headspace on the other side of emotional turmoil.”

Attachment Theory is Nashville-based “garage country” artist Aubrie Sellers’ third studio album, and arguably her best yet. Darker, edgier, and full of hard-won wisdom from bracing through the hellscape of modern dating.

Every day, there’s a new article about the demise of American Romance … you’d be better served just listening to this raw, real reflection of dealing with avoidant men fleeing from intimacy, delusional expectations getting dashed, and breaking cycles of inherited emotional responses.

Says Sellers,“This record was born out of heartbreak, with the theme of attachment theory running through it in different ways. I’ve always been fascinated by psychology, especially people’s personalities and quirks and how they function in relationships.”

From the ethereal and anthemic opener “Subatomic” to the Nashville garage-punk “Trigger Happy” and “Villain of the Week” to the carnival-esque honky tonk “Little Rooms” to the climactic rock closer “Alien Nation,” which comments on the ways we all feel lonely and disconnected, this album speaks to what so many people are struggling with. Wanting connection, but finding barriers at every turn in our modern world.

She continues,“Sonically, this record leans even more into rock than my past albums, but it has a darker, slower cadence. Less outright slashers and more intense rock slow-burners. I’m drawn to sci-fi, horror, and cinematic themes, and you hear that all over this record with the synths, strings, and haunting guitars. Ethan Ballinger, who co-produced and played guitar, and Jeremy Ferguson, our engineer, share those sensibilities with me.”

To be released in tandem with the album is Attachment Theory: The Podcast, where each episode feels like a deep, honest conversation with a friend. Sellers invites listeners into her world, sharing insights and perspectives that aim not only to illuminate the themes within the album but also offer practical advice and wisdom for navigating their own relationships and personal growth. Through candid storytelling and heartfelt explorations, listeners can gain a deeper understanding of the profound impact that relationships have on our lives. At the end of each episode, listeners can hear the song that inspired the subject. Following the January 14 launch with the first episode, “Villain of the Week,” new episodes will be released every two weeks.
