ANDIE Releases Single “He’s Not What You Need Blues”

Chicago soul singer and bluesy guitarist Andie Williams shares her music as ANDIE, who says she seeks to bring her queer and polyromantic perspective to the sounds of the blues, jazz, and soul. While she plays bass and background vocals for funky indie-soul outfit Smooth Rogers, she embraces a more old-school sound with ANDIE, channeling all-time favorites like Amy Winehouse as well as newer soul artists like Nai Palm of Haitus Kaiyote.

She released “He’s Not What You Need Blues” after previously sharing it in an NPR Music Tiny Desk submission, and NPR Music shared it, writing it was “recorded at the site of your fatal stab wound, and it seeps through the hole you made when letting your guard down. ANDIE’s vocals will transport you there and press you against that feeling.”
Rainbow Rodeo shared the single, saying, ANDIE  “delivers both a sizzling vocal performance and an ice-cold groove.”

ANDIE also wrote an essay this spring for Atwood Magazine’s Women’s History Month series, writing a piece called “A Step-by-Step Guide to Being a Girl’s Girl in the Music Industry (No Matter Your Gender!).” In the piece, she outlines ways to be an advocate and ally in a given music scene, and Atwood wrote in the intro, “ANDIE’s uniquely queer and polyromantic lens of storytelling draws out a fresh perspective on the topics of love and heartbreak.”
She said of the song, “it’s for every person who has been left for someone else. More specifically, I wanted to tap into the uniquely queer experience of being left for someone of an opposite gender and the feelings of jealousy, gender envy, and bitterness that can come up in oneself. I could not find a song to portray this feeling when this experience happened to me, so I hope people can resonate and heal with this song.”
