First Lady: 10 Things I’ll Miss Most About Michelle Obama

First Lady: 10 Things I’ll Miss Most About Michelle Obama

I don’t know about the rest of America but I’m going into a state of depression thinking about this coming Friday. Not because we will be “welcoming” a new President and part-time First Family into the White House, but because we have to say goodbye to a wonderful President and First Family that a lot of us have grown to love and appreciate over the past 8 years. I want to give a special shout out to Michelle Obama for her many contributions over the years: as first a mother (as she has put it many times), a wife, a first lady, and a genuinely kind and giving human being.

There are a hundred and one things I could list about Michelle that I will personally miss, but for the sake of your attention span and repetition through out different media outlets I will narrow it down to just ten. Starting with…

#1 Her Fashionable Sense of Style…

Michelle Obama has slayed in every dress she has ever worn. She has definitely earned the rights to the title ‘Fashion Icon’. She took a brand as simple as J.Crew and turned it into something that everyone just needed to have a piece of. That’s a true style icon.

Here’s a fun fact… did you know that for every State Dinner held at the White House that had an honored guest Michelle dressed in designs from their home country? What a way to make friends!

#2 Her Intellect and Wisdom…

Michelle was fortunate enough to attend a Magnet High School growing up. She also holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology and African American studies from Princeton where she graduated Magna Cum Laude; and a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School. What more could I really say? Her actions speak for themselves.

#3 Her Love for Tomorrow’s Future…

One thing that has always been apparent, is Michelle’s love for children. Michelle has invested a lot of time in today’s youth over the past 8 years as FLOTUS. Hopefully these kids will look back years from now and be proud to say that she helped make a difference in their lives.

#4 Her Health Advocacy…

Keeping America’s children healthy and knowledgeable about their health became a big part of Michelle’s mission in the White House. She developed a program called Let’s Move dedicated to helping end childhood obesity.

#5 Her Knack for Keeping it Real…

I think this is what a lot of people may love the most about Michelle. She has never been afraid to speak her mind at any cost. This has caused a little bit of turbulence for her throughout the years especially in the earlier years when she had mentioned something to the effect of [for the first time in my life, I can finally say I’m truly proud to be an American…]. That was paraphrasing but everybody knows that story by now. An I think that’s the day I fell love with Michelle.

#6 Her Not Being Afraid to Let Her Hair Down and Laugh…

Michelle comes off as being very intimidating and all business no play. I think she’s proven over the years though that what you see is not always what you get. She has shown us a lot of her fun side and dance moves over the years. Note to self: never challenge Michelle in a dance off or a pushup contest.

#7 Her Mother…

Michelle’s mother has not received enough credit over these past 8 years. Or probably ever for that matter. Michelle’s mother moved to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave with the Obama’s to help look after the girls (Sasha & Malia) while Barack and Michelle performed their civic duties. Marian Robinson I commend you for raising such an intelligent and caring woman and young women. You should know you’ve contributed greatness to this world.

#8 The Love for Her Husband…

Michelle’s love for her husband is astoundingly obvious. She never had a vision of being in the White House but because that is what her husband was passionate about, she stuck by his side through it all to support him. What a great example of selflessness.

#9 Her Beautiful Daughter’s…

Malia and Sasha… we’ve watched these beautiful little girls grow up into even more beautiful young ladies. What a joy it’s been to witness that, and what a joy Michelle has likely had or felt being responsible for that. The girls have had some superb role models in their short lives already. Great job Michelle & Barack!

#10 Her Marriage to The Best President of Our Time…

What these two have is genuine and hard to find these days. It was great to see their lives shared with all of America and the world for that matter. Whether it be them enjoying each other’s company at a basketball game or going for a walk on the White House lawn…it was a great ongoing love story that unfortunately must now come to an end for us. An it will likely only get better now that they’re leaving the White House and able to live somewhat normal lives again. Thanks for sharing with us guys.

An finally as I come to this close I would like to give a big THANK YOU to the Obama’s for letting us into their world and showing us what good humans look like. I could not be prouder to have been able to call you my First Family and experience this maybe once in a lifetime moment. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this family.
