Playing the role of much-loved Princess Diana, 24-year-old Emma Corrin won the hearts of people watching “The Crown” on Netflix. Since the show began in 2016, people speculated who would play the woman who changed the way people view the royal family. When the fourth season premiered in November, viewers finally got to see Corrin’s much-awaited performance.

Throughout the season, Corrin showed many of Diana’s personal experiences. Some of these experiences include her struggle with bulimia, her unhealthy marriage with Prince Charles, and her connection with her children, Princes William and Harry. Corrin brings her talents to each devastating moment of Diana’s short life.

One of Corrin’s best performances was in the season’s third episode, “Fairytale,” when Diana enters the royal family. Viewers watch as Diana slowly unravels between Charles’s affair, strict etiquette, and isolation. The episode truly shows Corrin’s versatility as an actress.

Before being cast in “The Crown,” Corrin had a few small roles, including a stint on the television show “Pennyworth.” However, Benjamin Caron, one of the directors for the season, gave her a helpful piece of advice for the role.

“Ben said to me if you ever get followed by a photographer, or your name ends up in the paper, when you’re surrounded by flashing lights, and you feel daunted or overwhelmed or anything you feel, this is exactly how she would be feeling. You’re going to have a parallel experience,” said Corrin. “[The show] already has changed my life quite a lot, and I expect when it comes out, things will get a little mad for a bit.”

Corrin will not be returning as Diana for seasons five and six of “The Crown.” However, she set the tone for Elizabeth Debicki, who will be playing an older version of the princess.
