Tips for a Puerto Rico Getaway

If you’re thinking of taking a cruise to the Caribbean or just need a nice tropical getaway, Puerto Rico is the place to be. An American territory located between the Dominican Republic and Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico is the perfect place to explore or relax for vacationers from the US. Because it is a part of the United States, you don’t even have to travel internationally to get here, and it is easy for tourists to get around even if you don’t speak Spanish.

Once you fly into San Juan airport, be sure to check out Old San Juan, a neighborhood that give you a gorgeous slice of Spanish architecture with cobblestone streets and pastel buildings. There are also hundreds of stray cats that wander the streets here and might just pose for a picture if you’re lucky.

While you’re in the area, make sure you plan a trip to El Yunque National Forest on the east side of the island, which is the only tropical rainforest in the US.

I suggest making the drive through the mountains down to Ponce on the southern coast of the island, another beautiful Spanish town full of historic buildings and culture. And of course, take advantage of the gorgeous Caribbean beaches that line the water just outside the city.

If you have a chance, also make a plan to spend a day in La Parguera, a small coastal town west of Ponce that features delicious, authentic restaurants and bustling nightlife for tourists.

Of course, the island of Puerto Rico has countless sights and activities to experience and enjoy for everyone, and I have barely begun to scratch the surface here. Everywhere you look, there is nature to appreciate, history to learn about, and culture to explore. You just have to go and see it for yourself!
