Due to the 2020 postponement in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Masters Tournament has returned to Augusta National Golf Course after a quick five months. Reigning champion Dustin Johnson will return after winning the green jacket for the first time in his career in November’s tournament. Here are some of the top moments so far in the tournament.

Lee Elder, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus opened the first round of the tournament on Thursday, continuing the Honorary Starter Tradition that has been held at the Masters since 1963.

Elder is the first Black man to compete at the tournament and he was honored for the first time with this ceremony. The 86-year-old legend did not hit the opening drive but the standing ovation he received was one of the most memorable moments in PGA tour history.

Player, 85, and Nicklaus, 81, took to the tee box following Elder’s celebration. Player is the winner of three Masters jackets and Nicklaus is the winner of a record-breaking six green jackets.

Ian Poulter started the tournament off strong with an approach shot at No.5, closing the hole with a three after scoring in the short putt.

Johnson will look to make history with a consecutive masters win. Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus are the only golfers who have won back-to-back Masters, but Johnson definitely has a chance to join this list.

After recording a 20-under 268 in the 2020 Masters, Johnson broke Tiger Woods’ and Spieth’s scoring record of 18-under 270.

Rory Mcllroy had a solid start to the tournament. He parred his first four holes, but then bogeyed holes five, six and seven. He recovered with a birdie at No. 8 but then bogeyed the ninth.

No.3-ranked player in the world Jon Rahm arrived late to the course following the birth of his child, but is still projected to be one of the top performers in the tournament.

After the first day of the tournament, there is still a long way to go in terms of solidifying the rankings. The tournament will be broadcasted on CNN and ESPN until its conclusion on Sunday.
