NCAA Tournament Packed With Upsets

This year’s NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament, also known as ‘March Madness’, has been nothing short of unpredictable with some of the most significant upsets in history. So far in the tournament, each number seed has won a game except for a number 16 seed.

No 15. Oral Roberts shocked No. 2 Ohio State during overtime in the first round of the tournament as the first big upset of this year’s March Madness. Oral Roberts has continued on to upset Florida in the Round of 32, beating the No. 7 seed 81-78 to advance to the Sweet 16. They will take on third-seeded team, Arkansas on March 27 for a chance to make it to the Elite 8. 

Syracuse is also advancing to the Sweet 16 after their second upset of the tournament against third-seeded West Virginia 75-72 on Sunday. The No. 11 Orange beat No. 6 San Diego State 78-62 in the first round of the tournament. 

Also in the Round of 64, No. 13 seed Ohio upset No. 4 seed Virginia 62-58.

Oregon State has also had a stunning performance so far in the NCAA tournament, beating fifth-seeded Tennessee 70-56 and continuing on to beat fourth-seeded Oklahoma State 80-70 to advance to the Sweet 16.

Abilene Christian stunned third-seeded Texas 53-52, scoring two foul shots with 1.2 seconds remaining in the game. They will take on No. 11 UCLA who also upset sixth-seeded BYU 73-62. Tenth-seeded Maryland upset No. 7 UConn 63-54 and will take on second-seeded Alabama to advance to the Sweet 16 and take on the winner of UCLA versus Abilene Christian .

No. 13 seed North Texas beat No. 4 seed Purdue 78-69. They continued on to face No. 5 seed Villanova in the Round of 32, but lost 84-61. Villanova will take on No. 1 seed Baylor on March 27. 

The Madness of the NCAA tournament will continue with the Sweet 16 games on March 27 and 28. Sixteen teams will compete for a chance to make it to the Elite 8.
