Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and World Cup alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin is looking to make history at the world’s women slalom on Feb. 19. Shiffrin is heavily decorated, with three World Cup champion titles, four world champion titles in slalom and six World Cup discipline title’s in slalom. At 18 years old, she became the youngest slalom champion in Olympic alpine skiing history. 

Shiffrin is one of five Americans to ever win the World Cup overall title and she has won 68 World Cup races including 44 World Cup slalom races. In 2018, she won her second Olympic gold medal in the giant slalom, tying with Ted Ligety and Andrea Mead Lawrence for the most Olympic gold medals ever won by an American Olympian in alpine skiing.

The 25-year-old made her World Cup debut in a giant slalom in the Czech Republic on March 11, 2011  and she has not looked back since. She holds the title of the only athlete, male or female, to have won 15 races in the same calendar year in 2018. She continued to make history in 2019, becoming the first athlete to win 17 World Cup races during a season.

She is also involved with the Kindness Wins Foundation, an organization that promotes kindness to self, youth and others in times of struggle. They work to amplify the positive effects that kindness has on society.

In February of 2020, Jeff Shiffrin, Mikaela’s father, died due to a head injury after an accident occurred at his home in Edwards, Colorado. Shiffrin and her family created the Jeff Shiffrin Athlete Resiliency Fund, in order to celebrate his legacy and promote the success of athletes across all sports. Donations flooded from all over the world in and the fund exceeded its three million dollar goal.
