2022 Oscar Winners

2022 Oscar Winners

The Academy Awards were held Sunday night in Hollywood at the Dolby Theater. It was the 94th year for the Academy Awards and Sunday night was most possibly the most eventful yet. Here is what went down and a list of notable 2022 Oscar winners.

Best Picture

“CODA” won Best Picture, making it the first streaming-service movie to win the award. It played at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021 and Apple TV+ later purchased the film. The movie also received awards in Best Supporting Actor with Troy Kotsur at the helm and Adapted Screenplay. Here is the trailer.

Best Director

Jane Campion won best director for her skills in “Power of the Dog.” This is the first time ever that an Academy Award for best director has gone to a woman in back-to-back years.

Best Actor

Shortly after Will Smith hit Chris Rock in the face at the Oscars, he won best actor for his performance in “King Richard.” This quickly became one of the most talked about events of the night. There is still confusion whether it was scripted. Smith talked a lot about the respect he has for Williams and their tennis careers during his acceptance speech.

Best Actress

After three attempts at an Oscar, Jessica Chastain finally received an Academy Award for her performance in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” During her acceptance speech, she spoke of mental health and thanked her makeup and hairstyling team.

Best Supporting Actor

Troy Kotsur made history as the first deaf man to receive an acting Oscar for his performance in “CODA.” Attendees stood and applauded in sign language as Kotsur received his award.

Best Supporting Actress

For her performance in “West Side Story,” Ariana DeBose became the first openly queer woman of color to win an acting Oscar. This notable win of the night helped make history.

The 94th Academy Awards stand to be one of the most eventful and historical nights in Academy Award history. A complete list of 2022 Oscar winners is online.
