NYFW: Mr. Saturday Presents ‘Where Life is Just A State of Mind’ SS21

New York Fashion Week got a taste of innovative nostalgia with Mr. Saturday’s men and women spring/summer 2021 collection “Where Life Is Just A State of Mind.”

Through this collection of modern sophisticated pieces, designer Joey Gollish emphasizes the need to convey a story through his designs. “With this presentation, I continue to tell the story of a generation” he said. “One that lived through the 70’s and 80’s; some say it ended in 1984. A generation that had ideals and changed culture in ways that we look up to now as aspirational, or look back at with nostalgia. But it was also a generation that experienced pain and struggle similar to ours.”

The collection follows a color scheme of black, red, white, and blue. Some pieces have bold statements such as “Don’t Shoot,” and patterns such as the American Flag which reflects the current state our country.

These pieces really emphasize a mix of both structure and rebellion. What highlights the structured aspect of this collection is the majority of these pieces are very crisp and sophisticated with the appearance of blazers, button down shirts and thick sweaters. Also, you can say goodbye to skinny jeans as this line really highlights the tailored/straight leg pants look. What makes this collection rebellious are the fabrics these pieces are crafted in such as leather and snakeskin. Leather jackets and pants along with combat boots throughout this collection is what adds to that edgy rock&roll streak in this line which is reminiscent of the 80s.

Other bold statements in this collection are bomber jackets, long skirts, and ankle boots which is especially perfect for the spring. The long coat trend also makes a subtle appearance in this collection adding a sense of mystery. This collection overall will bring a daring and bold look for streetwear in spring/summer of 2021.
