Loss of a Legend
This morning, iconic Parisian Fashion Designer and author Sonia Rykiel has passed away. Rykiel, who has suffered from Parkinson’s disease for some time now passed away Thursday morning at the age of 86. Her legacy will live on, with her still strong presence evident in the fashion industry today.
Rykiel is best known for her bright orange hair, and as the “Queen of Knitwear”. Her popularity began in Paris in the late 1960’s. At a time where women were confined by stuffy suits, Rykiel’s fun and bright ready to wear designs gave women the power of expression through fashion. Today her empire has branched out to menswear, children’s clothes, accessories and beauty.
In 2010 Sonia Rykiel teamed up with H&M to create a very successful collaboration collection, featuring her staple knitwear with bold colors, stripes and embellishments. This collection even included intimates that gave that illusive French-girl feel to all. Her influence will surely live on.
