Bobby Abley’s take on pop-culture revisits 90’s childhood nostalgia

At London Fashion Week Men’s, Bobby Abley showcased his playful AW17 collection. The designer, has been known to incorporate cartoon imagery and pop culture inspirations into his runway designs, such was seen in his previous collections.

His fall 2017 collection was an intentional nod to the 90’s iconic action heroes, the Power Rangers, with models in various vibrant colored athleisure outfits carrying a helmet under their arm. The collection also featured childhood motifs such as teddy bears and dinosaurs in the designs.

Abley also paired bedazzled thin black chokers with some of the outfits to go along with the men’s choker trend. And elastic straps on the wrists and waist to pay homage to the martial artist influence behind Power Rangers.

Pop-culture trends have such a huge influence and it’s great to see that reflected in fashion. I love seeing what fun, creative pieces Bobby Abley showcases in his collections, past and current.

My favorite collection being his tribute to Star Wars in his Spring collection last year.
