Addison Rae has released her first single, entitled “Obsessed”, alongside a music video. “Obsessed” is a self-love anthem. Rae is a well-known Tik Tok star with over 70 million followers. She is the second most popular person on the entire app.
“I’m obsessed with me as much as you/Say you’d die for me, I’d die for me too/And if I lost you, I’d still have me, I can’t lose/When you say that you’re obsessed with me, me too,” sings Rae.
Addison Rae started posting on Tik Tok in July of 2019, and she quickly rose to fame. Her videos consist largely of dancing, with Rae doing almost all viral Tik Tok dances. Rae has a background in dance, starting at the age of six. According to Forbes, Rae earned $5 million dollars just over the course of a year, from her Tik Tok fame.
Rae joined the popular Tik Tok collaborative group The Hype House in 2019, which helped her gain traction. She dropped out of college to pursue her Tik Tok career full time. Now, she has branched out into music.
“One could take it as being vainly obsessed with yourself, but that’s not what I’m trying to communicate. It’s more I can love myself as much as you love me, and that’s important,” said Rae to Vogue about her new song.
The music video for “Obsessed” is dance focused, featuring Rae and backup dancers. Rae will perform “Obsessed” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon next week.
Rae is also stepping into acting, with a role in the upcoming movie He’s All That, a remake of She’s All That. It will premiere on Netflix. It has a similar plot but with a swap in gender, as the title implies. In it, a popular girl, played by Rae, works to make a nerdy teen cool.
