The NBA Finals Are Set: Who Will Be Crowned a Champion?

By Michael Simon

NEW YORK, NY_. Following a historic season of record-breaking moments, buzzer beaters, and amazing playoff performances, the 2021 NBA season will finally crown a champion.  The NBA Finals will feature the Phoenix Suns, led by future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul, and the Milwaukee Bucks, led by two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.  With both franchises searching for their first NBA title, who will break their drought and hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time?

Phoenix Suns case for a championship:

The Suns have perhaps one of the more unconventional paths to the championship. Following an exit in the play-in tournament in last year’s bubble, the Phoenix Suns set out for a better year in 2021. With acquisitions like Chris Paul, Jae Crowder, and Coach of the Year candidate Monty Williams, the Suns gained essential pieces to bring them where they are now.

The combination of emerging young stars, like Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, and veteran leadership from players like Paul and Crowder gives the Suns great balance for the finals.  With all of the pieces, the Suns have high expectations for this year’s final.

Milwaukee Bucks case for a championship:

After back-to-back playoff appearances that fell short of the Bucks high expectations of a championship, the Bucks and Giannis have finally made it to the NBA finals. Following series wins against the Heat, Nets, and Hawks, the Bucks have a strong resume to bring home hardware.

While Giannis was out in the Eastern Conference Finals, Milwaukee found a way to perform at a high level to win the Eastern Conference. Kris Middleton, Jrue Holiday and Brook Lopez performed at a high level to secure a spot in the finals.  If Giannis can receive similar performances from his other supporting cast, the Bucks have a case for the championship.

NBA Finals prediction:

Given all of the factors that led to both teams spot in the 2021 NBA Finals, the Phoenix Suns will win in a dramatic game seven. Assuming injuries do not plague either team, I believe there will be a lot of great individual performances from the stars of both teams.

Overall, the Suns have been on a tear and look to have built a very strong chemistry. With Chris Paul searching for his first NBA championship, there may be nothing that can stop him and his young cast from bringing home the Larry O’Brien trophy.  I have Chris Paul taking home the Finals MVP award for his strong numbers and leadership.

Game one of the NBA Finals will be on July 6th in Phoenix at 9 p.m. EST, and it could be the start of a historic finals.
