Introducing The Melanin Therapist: Marsha Page

The Melanin Story

The lovely Marsha page was born and raised in South East Queens, New York. Growing up in a world were darker shaded skin was looked at as not beautiful or unattractive, could truly make you look in the mirror and question your value. Facing challenges with colorism and eventually racism truly affected her self-esteem. Marsha had never had an interest in makeup, she didn’t believe there was a place in beauty for people of color. Who would’ve thought an experience at the pharmacy with just a few cosmetic products would be the change in her world forever. Marsha furthered her education in beauty by attending Christine Valmy School of Esthetics and Makeup Artistry in New York City. Although she did attend a school of beauty she still didn’t learn much about makeup for skin of color. Becoming a professional makeup artist did not only relate Marsha to the beauty of makeup and artistry but it connected her to the melanated beauties who sat in her chair and resembled her.

“The Standard of beauty, not only includes us it begins with us.”

The Melanin Therapist

Marsha is so much more than a makeup artist she listens to all her clients but specifically to clients that look like her. Everything that she does with her clients and makeup is an experience. Furthermore having a career in Makeup working for MAC and even building her own makeup studio in the basement of her home. No matter the location of her pursuing her career, the conversations she had with her clients of color, listening to their experiences and fears about the color of their skin was so much more priceless for her. Marsha never let anyone leave her chair without informing them about the products that worked best for their skin. She is an artist that not only interacts but she meets her clients where they are. Marsha encourages people of color to love the skin that they were born in and to embrace it freely without any judgement.
