On Good Morning America, Taylor Swift announced she has re-recorded her sophomore album ‘Fearless’. It will be available April 9th. This was a result of Scooter Braun, a record executive gained ownership of Swift’s first six albums. Swift says her re-recorded version of “Love Story” will be out at midnight on Friday.

“Love Story” is one of Swift’s biggest hits from the beginning of her career. This version of ‘Fearless’ will feature 26 songs, including 6 unreleased songs that Swift wrote when she was ages 16-18.

Braun bought Swift’s record label Big Machine and thus giving him possession of her music. He owns her debut album “Taylor Swift’, “Fearless”, “Speak Now’, ‘Red’, ‘1989’, and ‘Reputation”.

Swift became contractually free to re-record her music in November of 2020. She announced that she planned to re-record her music in August of 2019. ‘Fearless’ is the first album she has recorded again.

Swift has been very public about her unhappiness that she does not have the rights to many of her songs. In June of 2019 she wrote about these feelings on Tumblr. In that post she also called out the founder of Big Machine, Scott Borchetta for selling her music and not discussing it with her. She describes both men as controlling.

“He [Borchetta] knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever,” wrote Swift.

After making this post she received support from other celebrities, as well as her fans.

2020 was a busy year for Swift because she released two new albums only five months apart. ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’ are storytelling-heavy. Swift views them as “sister albums.”

This release of Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” is Swift’s first step in gaining back control of her own songs. It is unclear what album she will re-record next.
