The rapper/singer has adopted the persona of a blue haired doll-like animated character that is fearless and unapologetic. Ashnikko, who’s real name is Ashton Casey, is a North Carolina born artist who is based in London. She has recently made waves in the music industry with hit singles such as “STUPID” featuring Yung Baby Tate. The hit has inspired a TikTok dance challenge which pushed her to go viral on the app. “STUPID” is apart of her debut album “Hi, It’s Me” which was released during the summer of 2019. The album is also home to other hits such as “Working Bitch” and “Hi, It’s Me.”

Ashnikko has been releasing singles and EP’s since 2017. Her first EP “Sass Pancakes,” highlights her rap skills with beats and flows that are reminiscent of a 90s brash hip-hop sound. Her second EP “Unlikeable” has a futuristic undertone that shows off a mix of her vocal and rap talent with hits such as “No Brainer” and “Invitation” featuring Kodie Shane.

The artist has never been shy of expressing her creativity through strong visuals which is apart of her appeal. She draws you into her world where her blue hair is on full display whether through an animated character or her behind a lens.

For her song “STUPID,” the music video reflects a bloody slasher movie, and has garnered 41 million views on YouTube making it her biggest music video yet. Her popularity only grew with the release of her single “Tantrum” in March. The music video for the single displays her as three different video game characters dressed in edgy/punk attire. The characters seem to mirror three versions of herself while riding motorcycles and rapping lyrics such as “I’m a handful, demidevil, pyromaniac. Bitch, I am one, throw a tantrum.”

The music video hinted at what’s to come in the mid fall of this year. Her “DEMIDEVIL” mixtape is anticipated to be released Feb. 19. In a recent interview with BBC News, she reveals the amount of time and effort she put into the mixtape. “I have nurtured her for a long time,” she said. “I’ve been sitting on some of these songs for nearly 18 months. This project is finally the one I’m proud of.”

Her recent singles “Cry” featuring Grimes and “Daisy” both from the upcoming mixtape show off more of her vocal talent. Both songs have skyrocketed her to a higher plane of artistry. The music video for the raging song “Cry” where she embodies a three headed animated character has hit 4.4 million views on YouTube. Also, in her latest music video for “Daisy,” she exhibits a softer side with a delicate chorus, and brings the colors yellow, red, blue and pink to life. The video is one of her strongest visually and has so far mustered 14 million views on the platform.

While speaking with BBC News, she also mentions that she doesn’t take “no” for an answer. “I’m very annoying and I don’t take ‘no’ for an answer when it comes to my career, which makes me unpleasant to some people,” she said. “It’s taken me quite some time to get to where I am.”

Her drive and growing success in the music industry hasn’t gone unnoticed. She has recently earned herself an EMA nomination for “Best Push Artist” where she is in the same category of artists such as Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, Conan Gray and many more.

One thing for sure is that Ashnikko has conquered her territory in the music industry, and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
