ATL Events: Iridium Art Show

ATL Events: Iridium Art Show

Every second Friday of the month streetwear boutique Iridium (@iridium_atl) hosts an art show to showcase the talent Atlanta has to offer. I had the pleasure of joining them this past Friday for the event. You can say streetwear boutique but as founder Lee Christian describes it, “Zara with an edge” may be a better description. Iridium, located on Nelson Street in Castleberry Hill, has been in Atlanta for about a year and a half with its second birthday coming up this October.

I got the chance to interview artists @simeon_felicien and @officiallyedi. Both of these men are singers, songwriters, musicians, and producers. I also got the opportunity to interview @daywlk who is a rapper, producer, and songwriter, entering the singing realm. They pretty much do it all. Whether in middle school, high school, or higher education, they all have had some schooling to help teach them what they love to do.

My main purpose was to find out how each artist describes his style and how it complements his artistry. Simeon Felicien described his style as just liking what he likes, including shirts with cool and wild prints as well as comfortability. His first EP, Illuminate, comes in November.

The next was artist, EDI, pronounced Eddie. Coming from a musical family, he plays the piano, drums, bass, guitar, trombone, and baritone. After giving me a series of life lessons about feeding my soul, we got onto the topic of his style. He has a scarf, Ms. Esmeralda that he ties around his mic stand when he performs and around his waist after the show. He also has several bracelets, being that he’s really into jewelry. He also stated he dresses how he feels and comfortability is important. What’s most important to him is the energy his style gives off. His EP “Love: The Experience” is coming later this year! He said it’s coming when the time is right.

DayWlk, a rapper from planet Earth is an African studies major attending Kennesaw State University that focuses on audio production as well. With a cool name like that, I had to ask where it came from. He said it’s inspired by the feeling of living in the dark but then making a conscious decision to walk in the daylight. Deep. When asked how his style reflects his artistry, he said he’s really into earth tones and vintage, washed colors combined with modern footwear but wants to experiment more as his journey continues. He said it’s representative to his music by being a way to let others know that it’s okay to express yourself, be who you are, and do what feels right to you.

I had a great time reporting at the event and learning about these artists and be sure to check them out. Their performances were great and they know how to wow a crowd.
