Runway Trend Recap from LFW 2017

AUTUMN/WINTER

  • Tartan

As timeless as plaids and checks have become, London Fashion Week showcased the classic print most frequently for AW17. From bold styles to windowpane prints all featured at Mulberry and Daks catwalks, tartan will certainly be a trend heading your way for the autumn/winter season. The tartan trend is combinable with any look, even more perfect to wear for when it’s time to layer outfits in the cold winter season.

  • Florals

As florals are usually synonymous with Spring, London fashion designers took fashion in a whole new direction — by featuring the feminine print for Autumn/Winter. Designers like Johnny Coca proved 1970’s Mulberry Home wallpaper patterns could complement any transitional look. Pleated dresses, flowy embroidered maxi skirts, satin blouses, and asymmetrical styles were seen across runways of Mary KatrantzouPreen, Erdem, and Christopher Kane.

  • Complementary colors

Hues of bright and monochromatic colors were featured on several pieces shown at AW17. Designers Roksanda Ilincic, Joseph, and Johnny Coca lit up the runway with bold colors such as oxblood, cobalt blue, yellow, spearmint green, and purple, all made to colorblock your wardrobe year-round. Others like Roland Mouret took a spin at the color wheel by pairing dark toned multi-color suede shoes with several asymmetric, velvet, sharp-cut, flowy blouses that come in the colors purple, green, blue, grey, and yellow.

  • Tweed

The take on tweed this year came with a twist, as it’s portrayed as more sensual. Nineteenth century Russia inspired Emilia Wickstead to tone down tweed as one that’s flirty and complementary to fit any figure. Topshop raised the standards of fashion by rejuvenating the traditional print with the idea of pairing apparel with oversized tweed hoodies. Simone Rocha toned down the masculinity of tweed to become sensual with the wearer to feature faux fur-lined pockets and a blended monochromatic belt.

  • Western style

The Wild Wild West inspired a wide array of looks for any cowgirl with cowhide prints, fringe, denim, Victorian high-collar dresses, and plaid. Western style will most likely become a trend, as it already made its way into many of our wardrobes with Western ties, blouses, boots, flannel, and denim, it’s never out of season.

  • Cartoon chic

Frequent pop-culture references were sprawled across the runways of London for AW17. Several nostalgic cartoon characters were featured on the pieces such as Disney’s “Fantasia,” Woody Woodpecker, Power Rangers, and Hello Kitty.
