Met Gala 2017 Overview

Met Gala 2017 Overview

This years Met Gala took on the rather elusive theme of Avant Garde. It’s defined as introducing experimental or unusual ideas which doesn’t really clarify anything..it actually makes it a bit more complex. Are some combinations just too unusual that they just don’t work? And ultimately, how do we define unusual or strange?

All of these questions were answered not only in the sartorial choices of all attendee’s but by the exhibition of Rei Kawakubo’s 40 years of work. I know she never refers to herself as an artist. She just exists and creates in this way that deconstructs notions of everything and nothing while simultaneously wiping out what beautiful has come to mean. All thats left behind is a blank space where the reader, onlooker or interpreter decides what it means..it’s wonderful.

Pharell Williams who wore slightly destroyed denim with her name written on the pant leg, a plaid top and leather jacket by her label Comme de garcon said “we are wearing her thoughts.”

Many A-Listers took this opportunity to wear the label while others donned assembles from brands like Zac Posen, Thom Browne, Alexander Wang, Gucci, Dolce & Gabana, Vivienne Westwood and Chanel to name drop a few.

Here are my picks for most interesting looks of the night (In no particular order..you decide.)

P.S. I was super surprised when during the live feed many of the stars like Future, Nicki Minaj and Ashley Graham all answered that infamous question who are you wearing? And all answered H&M. Later post will evaluate this phenomenon. Have a great week and feel free to comment below and let us know if you think we missed someone!
